Greenwashing self-assessment

Welcome to akkanto’s Greenwashing Self-Assessment. Communicating your organization’s sustainability efforts can boost your reputation. However, greenwashing – whether intentional or unintentional – undermines trust between your organization and its stakeholders. It can significantly damage your reputation and lead to severe legal and financial consequences. Therefore, it is crucial to avoid it at all costs.
A study by the European Commission in 2020 found that more than half (53.3%) of sustainability claims provide “vague, misleading or unfounded information about products’ environmental characteristics across the EU and across a wide range of product categories”. This is concerning and highlights the need for organizations to communicate transparently and honestly about their sustainability efforts.
akkanto’s self-assessment tool can be a starting point to evaluate your communication and prevent greenwashing. It ensures your claims are robust, truthful and substantiated. This tool is based on existing, international guidelines and models (e.g. Green Claims Directive, ISO Standards, etc.) Our team of experts is available to provide further information and guidance. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at sustainability@akkanto.com or 32 (0)2 610 10 10.
